The Limes delivers a mixture of 142 thoughtfully designed new and refurbished homes, centred around a landscaped podium courtyard, with car and bicycle parking underneath. A Day Care Centre completes the accommodation and provides a range of services for Islanders with dementia.
Built using modern methods of construction, the superstructure is recyclable lightweight steel framing, the bathrooms and balconies are prefabricated and the landscaped podium construction both sustainably manages rainwater run-off and irrigated the planting.
Local identity and well-being are key design considerations, with vertically proportioned, multi-planed facades in a variety of material and colours and an emphasis on biodiversity and landscape. Trees in front of the development are planted in mother earth and will eventually mature and create a green, urban buffer.
Inexpensive public art interventions help to tell stories about the site’s past era as an embankment for the now lost Jersey Eastern Railway, and reflect inputs from a local artist and school collaboration in the form of large scale cartoon drawings depicting family life and happiness, tattooed onto the balconies and printed onto façade tiling.
The Limes was a Jersey Design awards winner in 2024, for the Best Large-scale New Build Development category.
