Ideas for a New Place to Live

  • Team Mike Waddington, Matt Rentsch

This proposal is for a small new community in the Built-Up Area, which seeks to create 15 convivial new homes, in a ‘people-centred’, biodiverse, landscape setting.

Our approach is to reference the ‘street’ or ‘lane’ as an organising device for our proposed development. Clusters or groups of homes arranged around thoughtfully landscaped small streets or lanes are characteristic in much of the surrounding area and form the basis of our proposal.

Our ‘street’ however is not municipal in its design but shares its surface with pedestrians. We see it as a continuation of the shared public realm and, due to the limited number of homes, a safe place for children to play or ride their bikes. Further shared public realm is provided by the
car-free main green space where play, relaxation, trees and greenery can all be enjoyed.
